FALL 2020 Programs
Wallingford VEX IQ Robotics Competition Team 
Course Number 2005.401       Ages 10-13

Location: Spanish Community of Wallingford
Join us for another successful season of our VEX IQ robotics competition team. Let’s go to World
Championships again! Students can rejoin from the previous year, but we also welcome new faces. No
experience necessary. This program is high commitment and high reward. It encourages teamwork, problem solving, and leadership skills. The students will be using the VEX IQ robotics system to learn the basics of building a robot, coding and other STEM applications.
Fee: $335  includes all meetings, t-shirt for participants and registration fees for all scrimmages and State Competition.
Meeting Dates and Times (VEX IQ)
All meetings are 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.

NASA Astro Camp *New Topics Included*

As an official NASA partner, our local NASA Astro Camp explores what it really means to be an astronaut and an aerospace engineer combining science, engineering, and math all in one. Students will be building, launching, and exploring the various structures launched into space while thinking about the scientific factors that go into real NASA space explorations. This camp introduces children to the principles of engineering through hands-on NASA themed activities in which they will apply the engineering design process to solve problems and generate solutions. The emphasis is on students understanding that engineers must imagine and plan before they begin to create and test. Come join us for a great time and become a young astronaut. New topics will be included and different from our Fall 2019 program.
 
Sports Science  (NEW Program)

Tuesdays: 1/12, 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9     Time: 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.
Cost: $40
Come join us to learn the science behind some of your favorite sports: football, baseball, soccer, golf and others. We will delve into topics such as physiology, physics, engineering and more. Participants will create their own projects, including their own mini-golf course, mini water slide and mini basketball court. No experience in sports is required to participate.

Explore a different side of STEM with this new program. As junior chemists, students will study the substances that make up matter—everything that takes up space in the universe. They also study the changes that take place when substances are combined. These changes are called chemical reactions. Participants who join will have the chance to see how the properties of substances can make for exciting projects that might include chemical testing and allergy free food chemistry and different from the Winter 2020 program

Robotics Club

This program is designed for participants who would like a rich introduction to robotics and are not able to make a full Saturday commitment required for our VEX IQ Robotics Team. This program encourages critical thinking, problem solving, and communication. Participants will be using Lego
Mindstorms EV3 and VEX Robotics to learn the basics of building a robot, coding and related STEM applications.  Instructors will adjust program instruction to meet the needs of all participants
 
3D Printing with Blocks CAD  (NEW Program)    
Course Number 2006.427         Ages 9 - 14

Wednesdays: 10/7, 10/14, 10/21, 10/28     Time 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Cost: $40
Interested in 3D Printing? Blocks CAD is a cloud based 3D modeling tool that encourages users to learn math, computational thinking and coding concepts through visualization and designing models to be 3D printed. Each participant will receive one 3D printed model at the end of this program. Please make sure that your registration includes a current email address and contact phone number. Please make sure that your registration includes a current mailing address (including town/city and zip code) so we can mail your child their 3D creation. Maximum of 10 participants. Program will be shared prior to the start date.
 
Block Coding (NEW Program)    
Course Number 2006.428     Ages 8 - 14

Thursdays: 12/3, 12/10, 12/17     Time: 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Participants will code virtually using platforms such as Snap!, VEXcode VR and Ozoblockly. Using these programs, participants will create designs, control robots and more
 
 
Ozobot: Go For the Gold (NEW Program)    
Course Number 2006.130     Ages 9 - 14
Wednesdays: 1/13, 1/20, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10       
Time: 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Cost: $145
Ozobot is a robotic platform that empowers coding & STEAM education for participants. Participants will learn two ways to code with and without screens. This program will be led by an experienced STEM educator and participants keep their robot! Please note that this program will require participants to pick up their ozobot at the Wallingford Park and Rec Department on to be determined dates
 
VEX Code VR Python Coding  (NEW Program)    
Course Number 2006.131            Ages 10 - 15

Thursdays: 1/14, 1/21, 1/28     Time: 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Location: Online
Cost: $30
VEXcode with Python will provide participants with an experience of creating a project, test the project, making revisions and retesting the project. Come join us for this engaging form of coding

There’s nothing like some science to kick off the weekend!
Saturday Science programs will involve exciting projects for students to burn off some of that built up energy from the week.
Activities will include exciting and engaging science labs for kids to collaborate on.
